Inkjet vs Laser Printer

Is it better to buy an inkjet or a laser printer? It really depends on how you will be using the printer. There are a few key areas to look at that will determine if an inkjet vs laser printer is best for you.

Inkjet vs Laser Printer

Document Printing

If all you need to print are black and white documents then you’ll be hard pressed to go wrong with a basic laser printer. They are fast at printing, don’t smear and toner is generally cheaper then ink over the life of the printer. Once you start to through in color documents the price of the printer and toner jump us significantly. This can still be a good choice, but looking at color inkjet may be more economical when it comes to color.

Photo Printing

When it comes to printing photos the inkjet printer reigns supreme. Even the cheaper ink-jets will look better than color laser printers when it comes to color photos. When you add special photo paper your prints will look just like those you get from the photo lab- glossy or matte and with vivid colors.

Multifunction Features

While both laser printers and inkjet printers offer multifunction features you usually get more for your money with an inkjet. This is mainly because inkjets are less expensive to begin with. If you were to take identical printers with the same multifunction features and the only difference being one is a laser and one is an inkjet then you would see the inkjet come in at a much more economical price. If advanced multifunction features are high on your list and you don’t want to go broke then the inkjet takes the win here.

Conclusion

Both inkjet and laser printers can be a viable option. You just need to weigh your wants and determine how you will be using these machines. If its mostly black and white documents then its safe to go with a laser printer. If on the other hand you need to print in color or use some multifunction features then an inkjet will be the better choice.
